Brand new Google Reader for iPhone

Hi! Now iPhone and iPod Touch owners know how powerful having a full-featured browser is. We on the Reader team are heavy mobile Safari userson iPhone. Sometimes we use it to kill time, other times for answering important questions that come up during brunch: What is Tyrol's first name? How is maple butter made? How do you sweeten rhubarb for sangria? What is John Gruber saying now? For questions like the last one, we of course use Reader to keep up with our subscriptions.

To make our (and your) Reader iPhone experience better, we wanted to really take advantage of the iPhone's capabilities. Today we're releasing a new beta version of Reader designed for the iPhone and other mobile phones with advanced browsers. You can use it by visiting http://www.google.com/reader/i/ on your phone.

This new version is designed to offer many of the same features as the desktop, while making it quick and easy to act on items. If you've used list view on iPhone, then it should be familiar to you. Scan the titles for an item that interests you, tap and it expands in place. Starring, sharing, and keeping unread are done in place, so you never have to leave the list view or refresh the page. We think it's a very fast way to power through your reading list.

Nokia N95 Cellphone

n95_low_nowplaying_02.jpg

Nokia dropped word of their N95 multimedia computer today. (We still call em cellphones, but don't tell Nokia that or they'll bop us on the head...again)

The smartphone has a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, which they say can take dvd-like video clips. Does that mean 848 by 480? I don't know. it also has a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, and runs on the well supported Symbian 60 OS. It also has HSDPA and EDGE cellular data. Oh, it has nice Flickr integration with the photos you take. (click and upload)

And it's got this "2-way slider" thingamabob that kicks out both a numeric keypad and media control keys. Sounds like...a butterfly...pretty, but sounds like a complicated setup from a company I used to call the Apple of cellphone-dom.

More photo and inhand video.

Samsung YP-T9 reviewed

Well well, another Cnet review... hey, it's frontpage lubricant if nothing else. Need to keep those DAP engines rolling, innit?

But anyway... sweet-looking player, that YP-T9 (B) from Samsung. Cnet Asia wrote some stuff about the non-Bluetooth version of this particular gadget... well, you know the drill from there. They review, we post, you comment. Step number three is optional.

Notice that the article itself was written by a person from the Chinese website "Zol.com.cn" and that Cnet Asia translated the thingy + appended their scores to it afterwards. Hmmm... who would like to see a DAPreview review appear on Cnet ?

The good: Good tactile feel; decent audio performance; very good video playback time.

The bad: Supports only SVI video codec; small screen for video.

The bottom line: The Samsung YP-T9 raises the bar by the YP-T8, but with a more beguiling design that's worthy enough to warrant an upgrade.

Score: 7.6/10.0

LINK

I'll hold off for the Bluetooth edition... recently come to like the Bt + DAP combo quite a lot. Sound quality isn't all that (at least, not for my low-end headphones); but with all the commuter noise going on, "sound quality" tends to become kind of an abstract concept anyway. Those train doors have stolen my SennHeiser MX-400s for the last time, I'm telling ya .

HTC Libra To Support EVDO Rev. A

At the CTIA show in LA this week, a new Windows Mobile device from HTC was revealed and HTC executives confirmed several key details about the device. The phone, code-named Libra has both a traditional numeric keypad and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The phone is significantly smaller than current HTC devices with a slide-out keyboard; it is closer in size to a typical bar-style feature phone. The QWERTY keyboard has only three rows of keys, to accommodate the smaller device size. The Libra will be available in a CDMA version in Q1 next year, with support for EVDO Revision A high-speed data. A GSM version is also planned for next year. Although revealed at the UTStarcom booth, the phone is expected to be distributed by HTC and branded by carriers.
