ASUS Dual-Screen Laptop First on Market

The W5Fe Laptop from ASUS is the first production laptop to market with a secondary display on the outer shell. This external display is useful for tasks such as checking emails or calendars without having to open and boot up the laptop. The system uses Windows SideShow, a Vista-only technology, to deliver these features. Supposedly, the external display system can operate for “hundreds of hours without draining your notebook battery.” We’ll see about that. The price and date for release has not been announced yet, but will probably be after Vista’s.

Logitech Pushes the Edge with Stunning New Keyboard Design

Rechargeable Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard Features Ultra-Slim Design, Integrated TouchDisc, Dynamic Backlighting

It’s more than a keyboard – it’s a minimalist work of high-technology art. Today, Logitech unveiled the Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard, a cutting-edge blend of refined design and breakthrough innovation. Following the design legacy of Logitech’s original, award-winning diNovo Media Desktop (2003), the diNovo Edge reflects the growing importance and visibility of the PC in today’s home.

Meant to be seen and touched, the comfortable new keyboard, with a high-gloss finish, is laser cut from a single, semi-translucent piece of black Plexiglas and set into a brushed-aluminum frame. Its minimalist style is further evident in the limited number of buttons and the dynamic, backlighted icons embedded within the keyboard, which are invisible when not illuminated. Considering the keyboard’s many innovations and advanced technology, this eye-catching design seems impossibly thin at only ¾-inches (19.05 mm) thick.

Breaking new ground in technology, the diNovo Edge is Logitech’s first rechargeable keyboard, features an integrated touch-sensitive navigation and scroll panel, and includes embedded Bluetooth wireless technology. Its fusion of premium technology and aesthetics adds a sense of prestige to any den or office. It also makes the keyboard a perfect addition to the living room, where an increasing number of people are using their computers.

“The diNovo Edge is the most beautiful and elegant keyboard we’ve ever made,” said Denis Pavillard, vice president of product marketing for Logitech’s keyboards and desktops. “It elicits an immediate emotional connection the first time you see it – and that connection only gets stronger when you place your hands upon it. The diNovo Edge delivers a premium experience in every way, from how it looks in the office or living room, to how it feels and

Cnet Asia checks out the aigo MP-F958

Aigo have been coming out with some stylish looking players recently, from this PMP to this interesting watch. The newest player from this native Chinese company is the MP-F958. I don't know about you, but the first time I looked at it, I felt it had a striking resemblance to Microsoft's new baby, the Zune. At least in terms of control and screen layout. Cnet Asia has provided us with some details and specs:

  • 1GB
  • 2" Display
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, and WAV
  • Video: AVI
  • MiniSD Card slot
  • FM Tuner and Text Reader
  • Battery Life: 10 Hours

The rated battery life is pretty low, but in a drain test it managed to squeeze out almost double that amount. Still these aren't exactly impresive specs, especially when compared to something like the Meizu M6. These most likely won't make it to our shores but I doubt anyone here will make a fuss about it.

Imation adds flash storage to charity wristbands

Imation_wristAll the rage a couple of years back and still doing steady business are the coloured charity wristbands. They showed you'd done your bit for charity, but served no other practical use. Well, Imation plan to change all that.

It's launched USB flash drive wristbands in a range of "charity-friendly colours". Much the same as the ones previewed at this year's CES, they're available in capacities ranging from 32MB to 1GB. The bands can also be customised with a logo or message if you're willing to commit to purchasing 100 of the wristbands direct from Imation Japan. Intel has already taken advantage of the offer, with branded wristbands already doing the rounds at the company's HQ.

No news on price - probably best to contact the company direct for a bulk price.

Dell Sells Ergodex Customisable Keyboard

I once went on a blind date with someone who had been rather horribly injured in an industrial accident while working at a tuna canning plant. The fingers of their right hand were splayed out across a 270 degree angle, which not only ended their unpromising career as a jazz trombone player but made typing the “Touching the Void” style screenplay about the experience damned difficult on a standard keyboard.

Cowon announces the iAudio F2

The iAudio F2 has just been released and it's a nice surprise for all of us. In comparison to the iAudio F1, the F2 takes a far more sophisticated design approach and also offers a larger amount of features.

At a first look the design reminds me a little of the LG Chocolate.

We have all gotten used to the massive codec support on Cowon players, and the F2 is no different. The device supports WMA (with DRM 10), MP3, OGG (up to Q10) and FLAC (levels 0-8). The unit also offers limited video playback functionality in up to 15 FPS. The F2 can also display JPEG images and text files. You can see all this stuff on the player's 1.3 inch screen, that has a resolution of 160x128.

The new iAudio will be available in capacities from 512 MB to 2 GB. The capacity is a little meager, especially seeing that the new iPod Nano comes in up to 8GB. The battery life is rated at 22 hours which is pretty good if you ask me. The player also includes and FM Radio, FM Radio recording and an integrated microphone for voice recording.

We have gotten used to BBE on all new iAudio models. The s/n ratio is 95 dB and the player supports both UMS and MTP. The output power is rated as 30+30 mW with 16 Ohm headphones (this will seriously blast your eardrums). All this stuff can be found in a tiny package weighing 39 grams and a size of 34.8 x 72.9 x 16.7mm.

Lexar JumpDrive Mercury with built-in capacity meter

Lexar_mercury Lexar has launched what it claims is the first USB flash drive with a capacity meter in the UK - the JumpDrive Mercury.

The built-in capacity meter is based on Electronic Paper Display (EPD). The display is a paper thin, shatter proof and doesn't rely on external power to provide the information. It also retains the information after being unplugged. The drive also features PowerToGo, which allows you to carry and access your PC programs wherever you are (rather like U3), plus there's pre-loaded EverNote software, which is good for quickly capturing and storing information, along with advanced security, including encrypted areas and a file shredder feature for secure deletion.

The JumpDrive Mercury is available in 1GB and 2GB versions. Prices to be confirmed.

Ok, maybe not real diamonds like the iDiamond Earphones but how about some cheaper sparkle like these bejeweled Ear Drops priced starting around $30. 3 styles in either white or black: round, heart-shaped, and traditional in-ear-look. Also has different colored rhinestones to choose from. So don’t just listen to music, groove with style.
