Slice Computing System

he ‘Slice’ concept is an organically inspired computing system which envisions a new approach to accessing, organizing and interacting with information and data stored on the PC. Current file management systems force users to store and manage files in a hierarchy of folders. The files are buried deep within folders providing no visual indication of where files are located, further adding to the confusion.

Slice brings the information out of the computer putting it into the users hand. By physically interacting with the slice, users can organize and place files accordingly. Each of the slices visually represent different folders seen in current operating software such as My Documents, My Music, My Videos, etc. The visual and touch based experience associated with slice provides the user with a tangible connection to their information stored on the computer reassuring the safety and placement of their files.

Segway x2 Golf Edition

Despite some malfunctions and recalls, the Segway is still moving along and has come back with a new version called the x2 Golf. What better crowd to target with its nice hefty price tag than those who spend their sunny days out on the green. They’ve had previous golf editions, but this one is built on their heavy-duty x2 platform. The x2 Golf is meant as a replacement for the golf cart, with its golf bag carrier attachment placed strategically so the device maintains balance on its low-pressure tires that wont tear up the turf. Pricing and availability have not yet been released.

Konica Minolta turn the office into a multimedia-Starbucks

I know what you’re thinking - some little oik has broken into the office and sprayed graffiti all over the bloody photocopier. How will you ever get that five-hundred page “Pathway to Success” proposal to Alan in accounts by close of day? But before you collapse into awful, embarrassing tears, listen up; it’s actually Konica Minolta’s latest all-in-one prototype, the bizhub, for the office that enjoys clustering around a single piece of equipment.

Sonic Bed hides hifi under the duvet

If I told you that I knew about a new gizmo for your bedroom that vibrates in a pleasing and relaxing way and requires mains electricity to work its magic, would you slap me?

Before my cheeks get beaten red raw, I’ll explain that it’s Kaffe Matthew’s deeply curious Sonic Bed, which apparently lulls occupants with a complex and endless loop of soothing sounds. Personally I just like the idea of a bed that you step up to and then drop down into, but I don’t think there’s room in my hovel for one.

Kodak EasyShare Z710 featuring 7.1 megapixel and 10x zoom officially announced

At the heart of Kodak’s new EasyShare Z710 camera is the SCHNEIDER KREUZNACH VARIOGON 10X optical zoom (fancy name) and a 7.1 megapixel image sensor. I’m not too fond of the odd shape, but then again, I’m not complaining especially when the price is less than $300 for a quality point and shoot digital camera. The EasyShare Z710 ship stateside first of November.

Give it a shake – and it’s dry!

The umbrella that doesn’t get wet in the rain – or dirty, either. Even after heavy rain, just give this umbrella a good shake and it will be clean and dry right away. Even in light-coloured fabric, it will keep looking immaculate for years. The secret: Innovative nanotechnology. Modelled on a natural phenomenon – the lotus leaf. In nature, a fascinating effect is produced by the microscopic, rough nanostructure on the leaves of the lotus plant: Dirt and moisture simply roll off. This is because there is a much smaller surface area to which things can stick than on a smooth surface. The design of your NanoNuno® umbrella is based on this natural principle, with the result that moisture does not penetrate the fabric and so there is no tedious drying. This process was developed in Switzerland during many years of research. Classically elegant full-length umbrella with high-quality wooden handle and automatic mechanism. The strong 8-part aluminium and fibreglass shaft and ribs will withstand even heavy squalls. The curved handle made from smooth, polished beech feels comfortable and secure in your hand. The canopy measures 96cm (37.8”) in diameter. Canopy: 100% polyester. Length 88cm. (34.6”)Weight approx. 560g (1.2lbs)
